2nd Annual “Chasing the Sun” National Pow Wow is a Native American-themed event celebrating Native American people, culture and traditions. 

“Chasing the Sun” Pow Wow & 10K draws dancers, runners and spectators from across the U.S. and Canada

In its second year, the event boasts the nation’s top pow wow dancers competing for their share of $100,000 in prize money. Presented by the Ak-Chin Indian Community and the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes, the general public is welcome to experience one of the largest pow wows in North America.

The pow wow competition kicks-off with a “grand entry” of all pow wow contestants on Friday, February 19 at 12:00 pm. Grand entries are repeated on Friday at 7:00 pm and on Saturday, February 20 at 10:00 am and 7:00 pm. With eleven age groups ranging from tiny tots (5 & under) to elders (age 70+) and over 30 dance categories, competition will continue both days until 11:30 pm. In addition to dance competition, Native American drum groups will be vying for the $8,000 northern and southern drum contest top prizes, new to this year’s event.

The event also includes a “Native Market” featuring arts & crafts, and food vendors who will sell a variety of  Native American foods such as Indian frybread and stews. The “Native Market” portion of the pow wow event is free and will be located outside the arena. And carrying over from the inaugural event, Merck will once again sponsor the Health Expo featuring a variety of non-profit, health-related organizations from the Phoenix-Metro area.

The "Chasing the Sun" 10K race, sponsored by Nike, N7 shoes, and Merck, will take place on Sunday, February 21 at 8:00 am with cash prizes going to the top three male and female finishers. At 8:30 am on Sunday, a 1-mile Family Health Walk will take place, created to encourage implementing exercise as a part of daily lifestyle and to promote health and wellness in Native American communities. The health walk is free for all participants.

Pow wow admission is $15 per day, Friday and Saturday. Seniors 65+ and children 6 & under are free.

Andrew P. Napolitano, a former New Jersey Superior Court Judge and now a respected analyst on political strategy and Constitutional law.  Andrew will address Charity, and how the preservation and strengthening of the Constitution is inextricably linked to the health and survival of our nation, as well as our ability to be charitable.

Following the success of its nationally televised New Year’s Eve performance in Times Square, Daughtry reveals plans for the second leg of its U.S. arena tour, which is scheduled to begin March 18 in Baltimore, Maryland and will continue into the summer.

Iconic recording artists Carole King and James Taylor “Troubadour Reunion” tour will travel to Jobing.com Arena in Glendale on Wednesday, May 19 for a 7:30 PM performance. This once-in-a-lifetime event marks a rare concert experience bringing two of the most beloved singer-songwriters on tour together – intimate and in the round - for the first time in four decades.    

Joining King and Taylor on tour will be their original bandmates guitarist Danny “Kootch” Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar, famous in their own right as “The Section.”  Also joining The Section will be: Rudy Guess, Robbie Kondor, Arnold McCuller, Kate Markowitz, and Andrea Zonn.

King and Taylor’s historic performance together at the Troubadour in November 1970 heralded King’s transition to solo stage performer, after penning 22 Top 40 hits for artists ranging from Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman” to the Monkees’ “Pleasant Valley Sunday”, while Taylor was supporting his self-titled Apple Records release featuring classics such as “Carolina In My Mind” and “Something In The Way She Moves.”  Both have since become multi-platinum-selling artists, GRAMMY® winners, and members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
